Friends, Romans, Enemies, dogs, cats, fish… I have exciting news for you! I am leaving this website behind (well, mostly, kind of, sort of, a bit) and moving to a new one. Yes, you heard me right. I am abandoning this old, rather messy, rather busy, and rather jam-packed website at https://marcelgagne.com for a shiny new blog at https://freethinkeratlarge.com.
Why, you may ask? That’s an excellent question. Well, it’s simple. I tried to declutter this website and make it more minimalist and elegant, but it was too much work. I tried. I really did. I mean, have you seen how much stuff I have here? Articles, videos, podcasts, books, recipes, photos, and more. It’s like a digital hoarder’s paradise. I tried to follow the advice of Marie Kondo and ask myself if each item sparked joy, but I couldn’t decide. Everything sparks joy for me. If you’re known me for any length of time, you know that I’m easily amused. This is my downfall. And my power. But it will definitely be my downfall.
Anyhow, I decided to start fresh and create a new website that reflects my current interests and passions. A website that is more focused and streamlined. A website that is more freethinking and less cluttered. A website that is more me. It wasn’t quite a direct route to the new site, however. People told me that all the really cool kids were hanging out at Medium, so I tried that. Then, they told me that, no, that was wrong. The really, really, really cool kids were at Substack, so I tried that too. In the end, I decided to go back to my open-source roots and start a new blog (or website, or soapbox) built on the Ghost CMS platform.
Don’t worry, though. I’m not deleting this website. It will still be here for you to browse and enjoy. All those Cooking With Linux articles, the videos, the strange poetry, the weird and wonderful observations about religion, politics, and other hot button issues… I think I may cry. Sorry. Anyhow, think of this site as a museum of my past work. A legacy of my online presence. A tribute to my eclectic tastes.
