Defendguin

I've been reading "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline. And yes, it has me thinking about classic arcade games. And no, this isn't a book review. It's about one game in particular. Once upon a time, there was a rather popular arcade game called Defender, into which, over the course of a few months, I lost a lot of quarters to. In the game, you had to move a spaceship left and right, firing at aliens trying to abduct and enslave little astronauts who ran along the rocky surface. It was fast and it was fun. Defender spawned a huge number …

Distro hopping . . . again. Hello openSUSE!

I'm sharing this with my Linux and free software friends because I know they'll understand.   Well, I've done it again.   It seems I can't stick with a Linux distribution on my primary desktop for any length of time before I feel the need to share my home directory with another. To all the distributions I've loved before, it's nothing personal. To my most recent fling, Netrunner, you were slick and friendly, but just not enough to keep me entertained. And before that, Linux Mint . . . we've been together enough times that you know I'll come back …

Taking Over The United States

The year is certainly starting off with a good dose of insanity. Yes, America . . . we Canadians have been planning the takeover of the United States all along, and Obama is just another Canadian puppet. We already rule your media and entertainment industries and soon, after Obama starts 'managing' the alien invasion, we'll launch our final attack. On television, of course. Check out the interview with professional conspiracy theorist, Craig Garrow. Oh, and did I mention there will be aliens? I did? Meanwhile, over on eBay, the Zombie Apocalypse has officially begun. Seems a guy in Indiana has been …

Happy New Year!

It has been suggested that we make 2014 an amazing year. What if we just make it an amusing year? Or a slightly better than average year? Or what if we save energy and resources by recycling an old year that was still otherwise pretty okay but with a dash of coolness? Like 1969. The new year is starting out pretty cold though! Had the Martians invaded today, they'd have turned around and gone back home where it was warmer. A more serious take than mine is at http://blogs.discovery.com/inscider/2014/01/it-was-colder-in-canada-than-on-mars.html . Happy New Year!
