I've been writing professionally for nearly 20 years, although I've been writing for a lot longer than that. As far back as I can remember, I've been writing stories, and somewhere in my twenties, somebody convinced me that I should try to sell some of what I write. It wasn't until 1994 that I made my first professional fiction sale. It would be another 5 years before I started making something resembling a real income from writing. Oddly enough, it wasn't fiction that I became famous for, but technical writing. Of a sort. You see, I never gave up writing stories and even when I about computers and operating systems, I kept right on telling stories.
