Way back, a long time ago, when dinosaurs still roamed the Earth, in the late 1970s to early 1980s, I subscribed to a particular cerebral publication called "MAD Magazine". I also read Naional Lampoon and Heavy Metal magazines, but this post is about MAD.
MAD Magazine included many diversions to train the young mind in the ways of advanced logic and reasoning. The highlight of this was a complex fold-out at the back of the magazine that demanded accurate folds and excrutiating attention to detail. The reward was a hidden glimmer of truth, laid bare to those who could master the arcane folds. MAD dealt with social issues, current events, movies, and more.
The razor sharp minds behind this stellar publication also understood that music is an important part of training the human mind. Using the same brilliance that inspired their fold-outs, the MAD geniuses created a 33 and 1/3 RPM record that played the same song each time, but with eight different endings. The ending you heard depended on where you dropped the needed of your record player, a musical instrument of the time. Using this record player and its vibrating needle, I was able to, after several hundred plays, hear each of the eight different endings. With the help of today's technology, modern audiences can how hear all eight parts in the following audio video, that being a video that is essentially just audio.
To this day, I can still hear the words to this miraculous song flowing through my consciousness. Indeed, I can at times be heard singing those words, loudly, as I try to pry my children from their beds. And so, I present to you, through the magic of YouTube and some other guy with too much time on his hands, MAD Magazine's "Super Spectacular Day". Enjoy! (Note that the actual song starts about 40 seconds into the video.)
